Music and Ethnicity Relations Overview

The presence of various music types and their perception must be viewed as an indicator of social diversity. Moreover, even if the social variety happens to coincide with the different human races as they evolved, a melodic variety must still be viewed as culture-explicit. Thus, a characteristic figure in contemporary discussions of musical repertoires, identities, and meaning effects is that of dialogue: musical subjects are defined in relation to everything (Franklin, 2016). The purpose of this paper is to consider a possible connection between a music style and a particular ethnic group and whether it makes this style authentic.

One may say that the portrayal of nationality in music is strictly determined. In other words, it reflects the performers’ way of thinking notwithstanding what is viewed as standard and normal and what is believed as abnormal and exotic (Franklin, 2016). Likewise, ethnic stereotyping is frequently considered as fun and diverting and, therefore, engaging. Music made with this sort of mentality, and the reasoning, and reflected mindset shapes the attitudes, assumptions, and audience’s viewpoints concerning the underlying music and culture. Consequently, one should state that depending on what ethnicity is closer to an individual, he or she will percept the music in their own way.

What is more, there are some features making every style authentic. Anyone can interface with the chords or the tune and feel something crude and strange about the melody. As such, one may believe the music to be authentic, regardless of whether they like the sound. For instance, religious groups occupy their domain and are protected by a specific sort of music, but still their point is also to show articulation to their religious aspirations. By listening to that kind of music, a person will not hesitate to consider it unauthentic.

In conclusion, one should emphasize that tunes and music, in general, are a unique type of social articulation, as they are the mechanisms of expressing human emotions and sharing the experience. Since the commencement of humanity, music has been impacted by historical occasions, overcoming countries, discovered antiquated shipping lanes, and, nowadays, radio, TV, and the Internet. Hence, as it was discussed in the paper, the reception of a piece of music may definitely be affected by its perceived closeness to a particular ethnic group.
