Effects of Fast Food on Health

In the present-day world, eating fast food is the easiest way for people to have their meals on time. On average, a fast-food meal is worth 37% of your daily calorie intake (Diraddo). This amount of substance is contained in three chicken tenders at KFC and maybe a sip of soda if you are lucky (Diraddo). In the last few decades, the consumption of fast food has been increasing due to its affordability (Diraddo). However, it is not a positive phenomenon as fast-food causes health issues and negatively affects people’s bodies.

Main body

Fast food harms individuals’ health and its consumption is one of the most common reasons for obesity. This condition is not similar to being overweight as, in this case, the amounts of body fat are much higher. The emergence of this issue is conditional upon the sugar and high calories content, which exceeds the norms (Diraddo). Even eating one fast-food portion indicates considerable calories, sugar, carbohydrates, and saturated fat intake. Moreover, people who eat at KFC are less likely to have a sufficiently nutritional diet with fruits and vegetables (Diraddo). Fast food consumption thereby replaces healthy eating habits, and it adds to the obesity of the population through the adoption of this habit.

Fast food creates a much higher risk of heart disease because of the increased level of saturated fats that form blockages in arteries. As a result, it leads to heart failure or bleeding of those who cannot live without it (Diraddo). Some other effects, such as type two diabetes resulting from high sugar levels, complement the possibility of such an outcome (Diraddo). This condition means that one’s body is incapable of producing insulin, and it leads to insulin resistance, as the pancreas does not provide sufficient amounts of this substance for normal body functioning (Diraddo). Therefore, the consequences of fast-food consumption for one’s health can be severe.

Another complication is the effect on a person’s mental health and his or her cognitive abilities. The doctors proved that such a consequence complements the physical harm resulting from regular fast-food consumption (Diraddo). This type of nutrition causes memory and learning issues as well as hyperactivity in the long run (“Effects of eating”). It is especially vital to understand for parents who keep buying fast food for their children without thinking of its impact on their health. Their hyperactive behavior is caused by the increased amounts of sugar in their bodies and the lack of vitamins and minerals for nerve cells (Diraddo). Hence, the health of young generations is also dependent on their eating habits.

In conclusion, regular fast-food consumption is a negative tendency in present-day society. It is impossible to underestimate the harm, both physical and mental, caused by it. The consequences might vary from obesity and heart failure to hyperactivity and poor cognitive abilities, and the latter is critical for children whose future depends on their education. Nevertheless, the attractive price of fast food remains one of the principal criteria for consumers while forming their eating habits, and this situation poses a threat to the health of the nation.
